I agree that Companion to theatre in Australia, edited by Philip Parsons with Victoria Chance is a most useful work. One of my favourite theatre publications is Eric Irvin’s Australian Melodrama: Eighty Years of Popular Theatre. We can certainly learn a lot about society through the theatre of the times.
