Biography
Dr Judith Godden is a freelance historian specialising in social history, healthcare history and biography. She was an academic at the University of Sydney for over 20 years, in the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, the Centre for Teaching & Learning, and the Faculty of Medicine. She is an Honorary Associate of the University of Sydney’s Department of History; an Honorary Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing; and Life Member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of the History of Medicine. She is a Patron of the Ryde District Historical Society, and Secretary of the Ku-ring-gai Historical Society.
Judith is keen to communicate her love of history. She regularly presents conference papers and gives talks to community groups. Her publications are extensive and varied, both as sole author and with others. These publications include comprehensive commissioned histories; biographies; reports; monographs; book chapters; journal articles; and an innovative web-based family history. Her expertise has been recognised in interviews for radio shows and documentary films, and as a referee and reviewer of articles and books. Judith lives in northern Sydney and undertakes small and large projects. She enjoys a challenge and new topics to research and write.
